Chapter Fourteen

Amina sat on the kitchen island, wearing his shirt from the night before. She tried to keep her poise while he stood in the kitchen wearing only sweatpants. She had to figure out how to stay calm and look at his perfect body without wanting to jump on him all the time. Her body was overheated around him, and her head was constantly replaying their moments in the bedroom. She wanted more of it all the time.

“So, what’s your plan for today?” Nate faced her with coffee in hand.

“Um, nothing major. Going to go home, start some laundry, clean my house, and see my dad for a couple of hours. Nothing too big. You?”

“Sunday lunch—or is it an early dinner?—with my parents. I have to drive up to Evanston to their place. After I take you home, going to hit the gym and then head out there to see them.” He leaned over the island, and Amina uncrossed her legs.

“Oh, would it be easier for me to get an Uber? I’m sort of out of your way.”

He slid close and stood in between her legs. “No chance. I won’t be seeing you again until Wednesday so I’m going to hang on to these last little moments a bit.” He put his hand on her face and kissed her in his favorite way. “So, are we good on all the race stuff?” He kissed her again.

Amina traced her fingers across his chest and grinned. “Yeah, I’m going to do my best with all of this.”

She wrapped her legs around him, and he picked her up and carried her over to the couch. He unbuttoned the two buttons on the shirt and made love to her. They held nothing back that morning. It was an excellent way to start the day.

Amina held Nate’s hand as he drove her home. She stared at his exquisite profile, but he was very quiet. She stroked her thumb across his strong hand, and he kissed hers but never said a word.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“Yeah, just gonna miss you, that’s all.”

When he pulled in the driveway, they sat quietly savoring the last little moments of their weekend.

“Have there been any more leads on Omar?” he asked as he stared at her house.

“Just a couple of tips on him still being in the area.”

“When did they tell you that?”

“Yesterday. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. The day got away from me, and it just slipped my mind.”

“Amina, you can’t let stuff like that slip your mind. What if he’s in your house right now?”

“I’m sure everything is fine. The police have someone patrolling the area, and it’s almost better if he shows up because then they can catch him.”

“Well, why don’t you call him so he can show up at your door?”

Amina got out of the car, took her bags from the back seat, and slammed the car door without a word.

“Amina, I’m sorry. I just don’t want anything to happen to you.” Nate hopped out of the car and followed her to the door.
